United States Naval Academy

The U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, is both a college and a military service: students are called midshipmen, live in Bancroft Hall, one of the largest single dormitories in the world, and graduate as officers in the Navy or Marine Corps. Tuition, room and board are covered, and in return graduates serve at least five years. Admission typically requires a nomination from a member of Congress or another official source. It is a very different, structured path built around leadership, discipline and service.
